Shear Cutting of Stainless Steel

Stainless Steel Shear Cutting is another of the Sumiparts SAS services, which allows straight cuts of sheet and plate and is characterized by using two blades that slide between each other. 

Shear Cutting is based on an initial crushing, followed by a partial cut by penetration into the surface of the piece and ending up with the fracture of the rest of the cutting section without chip removal.

The process is simple, in shear cutting the thrust force that the blades exert on the metal, at first causes it to be crushed, followed by a partial cut due to the penetration of the upper blade, then the pressure subjects the metal fibers under tensile stress. 

During the process, the fibers quickly harden due to acrimony, or modification of the mechanical properties by cold mechanical action, and break.

The sheared edges have quite characteristic shapes, on the surface of the cut there is a region called rounded, below this there is a relatively smooth or burnished region, also a zone of fracture due to the downward movement of the upper blade and at the bottom of the edge is the burr or edge caused by elongation of the metal during the separation of the two pieces.

The Shear is used to make cuts of metal sheets or different materials , which ensure the accuracy of the required measurements according to the specifications, without deformations, burrs or slags.

Shear Cutting is not only applied to Stainless Steel, but also to Colled Rolled Steel, Hot Rolled Steel, Galvanized, Aluminum and Bronze, Carbon Steel.
