The main objective of the safety helmet is to protect the head of the wearer from dangers and mechanical shocks. It can also protect against other risks of a mechanical, thermal or electrical nature.
The main elements of the hull are presented in the following scheme:
Frame.- In turn divided into:
Cap.- Element of hard material and smooth finish that constitutes the general external shape of the hull.
Visor.- It’s an extension of the cap above the eyes.
Wing.- It’s the edge around the cap.
Harness.- It is the complete set of elements that constitute a means of keeping the helmet in position on the head and of absorbing kinetic energy during an impact. We can differentiate:
Headband.- It is the part of the harness that completely or partially surrounds the head above the eyes at a horizontal level that represents approximately the largest circumference of the head.
Neckband.- It is an adjustable band that fits behind the head under the plane of the headband and can be an integral part of that headband.
Chinstrap.- It is the band that attaches under the chin to help hold the helmet over the head. This element is optional in the constitution of the equipment, and not all helmets have to have it.
